This month we profile the band, Blackmore's Night, featuring former Deep Purple, Rainbow, and The Outlaws guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore and his wife Candice Night. They have a special connection to Tarrytown because they were married at The Castle. They will make an appearance at the Music Hall on May 21.
PATCH: Candice, how did you and Ritchie meet and team up in a band for Blackmore's Night I understand you're Ritchie's wife?
Candice Night: We'll I was his fiancee since 1993 until 2008. Longest engagement ever. We met while I was working for a radio station on Long Island and he was in Deep Purple. They came to town and challenged our team to a charity soccer match. After they beat my team senseless I went to ask for an autograph. He asked me to meet him later on and we talked all night. Became good friends before it turned into anything more. I went on the road with him in 1993 and sang back up, then co-wrote some of the songs on his 1995 Rainbow cd. Then we started writing songs just for us and those songs later became the songs on our 1997 cd debut: Shadow of the Moon.

Blackmore’s Night is guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore and his wife, Candice Night. Their latest album, Autumn Sky, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard New Age Charts.
TheCelebrityCafe.com: Autumn Sky debuted at the top of Billboard’s New Age charts. What influenced this chart-topping album?
Candice Night: We actually recorded the album while I was pregnant with our first child, Autumn, hence the name Autumn Sky. This is a project that is almost 15 years old at this point. It’s a constant and natural evolution of our creation of original songs that are also pulling off of the spirit of songs from hundreds of years ago. So it’s kind of like a culmination of lots of idea from every tour of the world. We tour a lot of castles and historical venues and we kind of retain the spirit of a lot of these places and kind of weave the legends and myths and come up with our own blend and our own sound of music that brings the old together with the new. I think a lot of people are interested in it as an escape to relieve the stress and pressures of the modern day world. So we get a lot of inspiration from a lot of different things, a lot of different places, and that’s what winds up becoming the creative process of what our music ends up being.

Blackmore's Night, the “fantasy” inspired folk rock band formed by legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his wife Candice Night, have just released their newest album "Autumn Sky" this past January in the USA through Spinefarm Records/Fontana.
With a career spanning nearly two decades, the band of minstrels has gained cross over success all over the world with its new genre of “Ren and Rock” music.
The lyrics, written by award winning Singer/Songwriter Candice Night, are inspired by nature and the myths and fairy tales they encounter on their international travels. The melodies, composed and arranged by Grammy nominated Ritchie Blackmore, encompass musical structure and the essence of melodies from the early 1600s.
And then they are “Blackmore-ized” to become the beloved melodies of today! Blackmore's Night's last album, "Secret Voyage", debuted at #1 on the Billboard New Age Chart and held that spot for four consecutive weeks!
All of their previous albums have earned the band high chart positions and many gold records and awards all over the world.
Music Street Journal interviews Candice Night
MSJ: Can you catch the readers up on the history of your involvement in music – both individually and as a band?
Sure. I always loved music. It was my great escape from the stress and pressures of this world. I interned at a radio station in hopes to have a career where I would be around music. While interning, I met Ritchie Blackmore, who was still in Deep Purple, while playing a charity soccer match. He asked me to join him on tour in 1993, Purple's last tour as the famous Mark 2 line up, and requested I sing back up vocals on his Difficult to Cure solo. After he left DP he reformed Rainbow and when the singer had writer’s block with lyrics, he asked me to write the lyrics on four of the songs on the Stranger in Us All CD, as well as do background vocal parts on CD and on tour.
While Rainbow were recording their individual tracks, Ritchie and I would sit in front of the fireplace at the farmhouse-studio watching the snow come down and writing songs as an escape from the ever increasing corporate clutches of the rock world. The songs we wrote were originally just for us, but when we played them for our friends and they said that they would buy a CD that had music like that, we thought we would put it out for the rest of the world.
